Commando 3 was developed by Backbone Entertainment, which also handled the Super Puzzle Fighter 2 Turbo HD Remix project for Capcom and is working on Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo HD Remix. Both were top-down shoot-em-ups featuring a lone soldier plowing through throngs of gun-toting enemies, and Commando 3 carries on that tradition. The original Commando ("Senjô no Ôkami" or "Wolf of the Battlefield" in Japan) hit arcades in 1985 and was followed up by Mercs in 1990. That changed this week when Capcom released Wolf of the Battlefield: Commando 3 on PSN. While Xbox Live is being invaded by the genre (Ikaruga, Aces of the Galaxy, Assault Heroes 2), the PlayStation has been stuck with Rocketmen: Axis of Evil. As far as arcade shooters go, the PlayStation Network is in the midst of a drought.
